What is a leak trial?

A leak trial is a serious test for a leak detection system. It requires a major effort from the Leak Detection company and the customer. ATMOSi performs all its leak trials on-site, on-line and with real leaks, NOT simulated leaks. Such trials often involve the presence of firefighter parties in case the tests involve dangerous products. These trials are performed as blind tests, whereby the timing, size and location of the leaks are not disclosed to ATMOSi in advance, so that the real performance of the system can be assessed. The above considerations imply that leak trials are indeed expensive and potentially dangerous tests, but highly necessary and useful. By contrast, leak tests performed at the company's premises with simulated data are only used to validate the design process, rather than verify the quality of the product. The problem with artificial leak data is that they are often created with a model or process similar to the one designed to detect them, leading to the danger of using data "designed" to pass the leak detection method rather than test it.
