Part of gas production at Iran’s South Pars gas field was shut down this week following a pipeline leak. Pipeline 32 (part of Phase 16 of the South Pars gas field) feeds an onshore refinery, and according to Iranian news agency Mehr, the leak has been brought under control.
Repairs are due to be carried out on the pipeline, but production had to be shut-in temporarily. The leak has been reported as a “technical fault”, although the cause of the leak is still under investigation. The refinery that was being fed with gas from Phase 16 has received feedstock from other phases at South Pars.
The offshore facilities of South Pars Phases 15 and 16 include two drilling platforms which each contain two 32inch submarine gas transmission pipelines, and two 4.5inch pipelines to transfer glycol.
