CNOOC, China’s state-owned energy company, diverted two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) after a pipeline fire in Tianjin, Northern China. The natural gas pipeline was closed after a pipeline rupture that then caught fire.

The pipeline is connected to a domestic gas consumer. State energy firms in China have promised to increase supplies of LNG over the winter to help reduce dependence on coal, thereby reducing the production of hazardous smog.

Imports are said to be back to normal as of Monday 9 January 2017, although there has been no official statement from CNOOC.
