At the end of 2019, PHMSA submitted an updated rule on Pipeline Safety Regulations to improve the safety of pipelines transporting hazardous liquids. Included in the new rule is an extended requirement for leak detection systems beyond high-consequence areas to all regulated, non-gathering hazardous liquid pipelines.
