A subsidiary of Magellan Midstream Partners that operated pipelines that ruptured in three states must complete 16 million USD in upgrades, and pay a 2 million USD fine as part of the federal settlement.

Over 5,000 barrels of oil were spilled in pipeline incidents in Texas, Nebraska, and Kansas between 2011 and 2015.

On Thursday federal officials released a statement that the first incident occurred in February 2011 when a pipeline carrying petroleum ruptured north of Texas City, Texas. Hundreds of gallons of product was spilled, and later than same year, a pipeline ruptured when struck by heavy machinery near to Nemaha, Nebraska causing over 2,800 gallons of diesel and jet fuel to spill. In May 2015, a third leak incident spilled 1,800 gallons of diesel near to El Dorado, Kansas.
