Last Sunday, Venezuelan Legislator, Antonio Barreto denounced a pipeline rupture that spilled over 24,000 barrels of crude oil in southern in Anzoategui state, Venezuela.

The member of the Commission of Energy and Petroleum in parliament revealed that the oil spill has polluted Pao Aribi and rivers in the parish of Santa Clara, in addition to streams, ponds, lagoons and farms in the area. According to agricultural producers in the area, the damaged pipeline carries crude oil from Monagas municipality to the Jose Complex.

Barreto said that workers of Petroleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) and members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) are denying residents and the media access to the area and also confiscating phones and cameras.

According to the parliamentarian, Dr. García Mineira is reporting that people in the area have health problems due to the oil spill.
