Atmos Wave leak detection system recently alarmed a leak on a pipeline that runs close to the sandy coastline. The crude oil pipeline is 8” in diameter and just over 50km long. Atmos Wave detected the leak in under 3 minutes and sent a leak alarm and leak location estimate to pipeline personnel. Atmos Wave can send such notifications by email, cell phone and to the control system. Field personnel dispatched to the location provided by Atmos Wave discovered a spot on the pipeline where the wall of the pipeline had just corroded through. The estimated size of the spillage was just over half a barrel of oil. As this location was in a remote area it is possible that leak would not have been discovered by other means for a considerable time.
