Parametric studies and the power of Atmos SIM

A parametric study is a series of automated simulations where the input parameters and constraints can change according to user requirement. They can create a forecast for the pipeline’s future operations and enable pipeline operators to evaluate the results. In this blog, Senior Simulation Consultant John Anderton looks at two case examples in which a parametric study paired with Atmos Simulation Suite (SIM) can be used to optimize pipeline operations: the cases of an emergency shut-down procedure and a network capacity analysis.

From leaks and thefts to pipeline simulation: The Atmos library

At Atmos, our authors have published a range of books on pipeline solutions, from leak and theft detection to pipeline simulation. Here, we provide a breakdown of each book and where you can learn more.

Ask the expert Q&A: using pipeline simulation live on site, for the energy transition, for accurate models and more

Pipeline simulation software like Atmos SIM can support problem-solving at all stages of a pipeline lifecycle. We interviewed our Chief Simulation Scientist and co-author of “The Atmos book of pipeline simulation”, who answered some of the key questions we get asked around pipeline simulation.

The Atmos book of pipeline simulation - chapter 13

A range of different flow regimes exist beyond a single phase, but until recently, pipeline simulation software lacked the advancements to model anything beyond a single phase. Now, multi-phase flow regimes can be modeled by a pipeline simulator as long as accuracy is a priority.

The Atmos book of pipeline simulation - chapter 12

Pipelines remain the safest method of transporting any fuel, but they are not without their risks. Here’s how look-aheads and optimizers work together to play a crucial role in effectively anticipating risks and violations on a pipeline and prompting action.
